Cosmo's Virginia Adventure

We spent a little time at the hunting grounds in Virginia this week. It was wet, but Cosmo still had fun sniffing out the deer poop and chasing wabbits. See more images on Cosmo's web page!

Tsuki, Beauty Shot

17 weeks old today. I think she snorted a bug! ;)

Sharing The Prize

Learning The Game

Bolle loves fetch more than about anything in the world. She easily outscurries them to the ball but she must brave the puppy mobbing upon her return. They make a good team; try to wrestle the ball from her and sometimes with the right choreography, they succeed.

Booter will be 8 years old next month :)

Goofy Astro

Puppy V Toy

Red Boy was the last puppy standing after lunch today. More photos will be posted later this evening on the puppy photo page!

Play Time

Well Blue Boy is the first to be seen running around with something in his mouth. Although it is Pinky who discovered the joy of dragging newspaper around and the fun sound it makes when it is scratched and torn. Blue carried this piece of paper around until I took it from him. Just like his mother. Look at that intensity! Grrrrr.
It is never too young to learn how to beg to come indoors. :)
Sisterly love. Or, is it rivalry?

"I'm A Big Kid Now"

The puppies are running and playing with each other now. They have discovered the joy of chewing toys. And everything else. Their little teeth are coming in. This suspended moment is Pinky just about to pounce on her brother.

Play or Nap? Play? Nap?

We love our hammock bed, on loan from our Red cousins Raisin and Mackenzee (they are Vizslas). We are not sure whether to play on it or nap on it, so some of us are trying the napping and some are trying the playing. We'll get back to you on which it best serves! :-)
We are learning how to play with each other. Blue is the rabble rouser.
Blue and Green ganging up on Rainbow...

Bing Bang Babies' First Meal

The puppies enjoyed their first meal today!

Then they all piled up for a looooong nap :-)

Mama's Girl

Below: Kip asking Birdee if he could visit her puppies. She said no. :)

It's Official: He's A Shorthair!

This is "Orange Boy" ... napping with his littermates during the bedding change. One by one the puppies were moved back to the whelping box, and he slept through the whole thing... then he was the last one left, even after his 'support' was moved. Tee hee.

Birdee's Bing Bang Babies and Their Toys

Birdee is a known hoarder of toys and over the last few days she has brought quite a selection to her babies!

Day 60 - In Our Front Yard

I will post pictures daily until the puppies come! Click HERE for more photos of Birdee and litter information!

The Countdown Is ON!

Birdee and Bolle swim daily. This is Birdee today, attempting to snake Bolle's prize tennis ball after a retrieve.

2 Weeks And Counting!!

Birdee is starting to slow down - slightly - preferring to observe pool time from a safe place. She still takes dips to cool off and is quite agile for a girl with such a belly. See more photos of Birdee at 7 weeks pregnant HERE.

Halfway there!

Birdee at 5 weeks pregnant continues to swim like a fish and hunt the yard enthusiastically -- and is eating like a piglet. We are setting up the whelping area this weekend! Puppies due July 7!

Pregnancy Confirmed!

All the stars were aligned and all the right chants chanted; we saw 5 puppies via ultrasound yesterday!! So far Birdee is handling pregnancy well, a bit off her food but no morning sickness yet. We are 5 weeks away from whelp! Check our LITTERS page for more info on puppies!!

AB 1634: Powerful and Excellent Letter From A Vet

Sent: Sunday, May 27, 2007 10:18 AM
Subject: AB 1634

To President Ron Faoro and the California Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) Board of Governors:

Dear Dr. Faoro and CVMA Governors:

I hope that CVMA will learn something from the mess you have created by writing and sponsoring AB 1634. The leadership of your organization which, supposedly, represents the interests of all veterinarians, helped to write a controversial bill in secret, without any input from rank and file CVMA membership, or any broad consultation with the animal lovers and their organizations that would be adversely impacted by the bill. The bill proposes to deprive more than half of the citizens of California of what they have come to believe, and have every right to believe, is a basic civil and constitutional right: that every citizen has the right to decide if they want to spay or neuter their animals and, if so, when they would like to do it. CVMA has jeopardized the reputation of the entire veterinary profession, by supporting a piece of legislation which has enraged millions of animal owners and promises to enrich one segment of the veterinary profession. Now that the legislation you have helped to create has been high-jacked by some of the most extreme elements in society, CVMA remains absolutely silent, aloof from the problems and concerns of "the huddled masses" and, seemingly, powerless or fearful to try to "fix" anything. Meanwhile, thousands of rank-and-file veterinarians and animal lovers are being forced to become involved in things that we hate doing: writing letters to politicians, rallying support from breed organizations, meeting with our elected representatives and attending legislative hearings. I am attaching two of the letters I have written, as they provide examples of the problems with the piece of legislation of which you are so proud.

The tragedy of this whole fiasco is that "it is all for naught". The evidence from past experiences with Mandatory Spay/Neuter Laws is that they make the problems worse, rather than better. As an example, I have copied (see below) some statistics from the web site of Save our Dogs www.saveourdogs.net/population.html. There are plenty of other studies out there that have come to the same conclusion. You should have researched this whole issue more thoroughly, before you put the collective heads of the veterinary profession "on the chopping block".

Sincerely,

Charles A. Hjerpe, DVM
former CVMA member and emeritus professor of veterinary medicine, UC Davis

Birdee Wins A Prize

Over the weekend Kip and Birdee BOTH finished their Rally Novice titles, and Kip qualified for one leg of his Rally Advanced title. Birdee was in the ribbons each day of her Performance ring debut. We're very proud of our kids - especially Birdee, who should be raising puppies but instead was introduced to obedience a mere month ago. ;-)
